About Captain Tyler
Captain Tyler is the owner and operator of Flatliner Charters and brings more than a decade of hands-on experience as a commercial fisherman on Cape Cod. His background has given him deep, practical knowledge of both finfish and shellfish species throughout the region. Tyler’s navigational experience spans from the Gulf of Maine to the Florida Keys, with offshore runs extending to the Northeast Canyons.
Captain Tyler holds a United States Coast Guard 100-Ton Master’s License and is widely respected for his professionalism, safety standards, and ability to consistently put anglers on fish. Over the years, many anglers have shared outstanding feedback about their time on the water with him.
Tyler is also part of a strong network of captains who share information to improve success and maintain safety at sea.
Having grown up in the commercial fishing industry, Tyler is highly skilled with marine engines and vessel maintenance, and he remains closely connected to the working waterfront – selling clams in the offseason and staying active in the local fishing community year-round.
About Tyler’s Boat
Tyler operates a 28’ Whitewater that is well suited for targeting striped bass, albies, tuna, tautog and virtually every type of fish you’ll find in New England waters.
The boat is set up with efficiency in mind. Powered by a 300hp Mercury engine, it allows for quick runs to productive areas, while the open deck layout gives anglers plenty of room to fish comfortably—especially during fast-moving surface action when space and mobility matter most.
One of the key advantages of Tyler’s operation is that the boat is trailered. This flexibility allows him to launch from different locations depending on conditions, rather than being limited to a single home port. As a result, trips can be planned around where fishing is best at any given time.
With a background in commercial fishing, Tyler brings a strong understanding of fish behavior and vessel handling. He also stays closely connected with a network of local captains, which helps him stay informed on current conditions and productive areas. He has developed a steady, organized approach that works well for anglers of all experience levels.
Whether guests are seasoned fishermen or brand new to the sport, Tyler takes the time to make sure everyone is comfortable on board and gets the most out of the day on the water.
What Clients Are Saying...
Wonderful morning with Captain Tyler Putney of Flatliner Charters on his 28 foot center console boat . We fished the rips of Monomoy and caught several stripers and Bonito. Thank you Ryan or My FishingCape Cod for setting up these charters for the members. I enjoyed fishing with Vinny Steven and Michelle.
My last trip resulted in a wonderful battle with a huge striped bass on my fly rod - the largest fish by far I have ever landed on a fly (which I tied myself the night before). Thank you to the efforts and advice by your excellent Captain Tyler who put me in just the right spot.
I wanted to take this time to tell you how much I enjoyed fishing with Captain Tyler on Monday. At first, I was disappointed that we were not able to go to Nantucket to chase big bluefish, but that feeling faded quickly as Captain Tyler put us onto big striped bass in the Monomoy rips. We then chased and caught bonito for the rest of the morning. He really worked hard to keep us on the fish. That trip and the previous one I had with Captain Jimmy the Greek made me very happy that I signed up for these trips through your organization.
We had a great trip with captain Tyler. We all had a great time and caught many slot sized stripers. Tyler put us on fish in a safe location well protected from strong southwest winds!
Had a great day with Tyler catching striped bass. He is an excellent Captain. On the fish and really helpful. A great guy. For being 84, I had a special day.
Glad we went early. Spectacular weather and productive fishing. Kudos to Capt Tyler.
Tyler did a really great job of answering my many questions about radar and fish finders and top water plugs, etc. I caught the biggest fish at 38” and another at 32”, and a perfectly slotted one at 29.5
What a morning on the water at the rips off of Monomoy. Captain Tyler did it again. Getting ready to go again in July.
Had my 4th MFCC charter trip this week with TYLER Great day and great captain
First father and son trip in a few years and Captain Tyler put us on the fish. My son Sean caught is personal best at 38” and we maxed out our keepers. Tyler always makes it a memorable day, and it was fun pairing up with a couple MFCC members.
The fishing was crazy! It seemed every cast produced a strike!
It’s been an amazing year of fishing! I have had an AMAZING summer of fishing and I learned SO MUCH! I can’t thank you enough for this group. It’s been wonderful to fish with captain Tyler and all of the other guides. I can’t wait for next year!
Kudos to Captain Willy Hatch! Nice guy and very personable. He made the long day enjoyable and with a smile. Willy and Tyler are the type of fellows that you would want to head into a tavern and have a beer with. Both just down to earth guys. I enjoyed the trip, especially meeting with fellow MFCC members and past fishing partners. We are already planning our next fishing trips together. Well Done!
Both captain Tyler and captain Willy demonstrated that they know where the fish are, and know what how to keep us busy by giving us a satisfied experience. I enjoyed meeting the MFCC members in all trips I took this year.
Tyler was an outstanding guide. We covered more water in 5 hours than I think I ever have. I loved how he was very quick to move on if a particular area wasn’t producing.
Tyler got us on a ton of massive albies today! It was awesome!
immy is a first class man in every way…. who obviously LOVES his work. There is no one finer to take a group out for a day of wonderful fishing and conversation. We had a few laughs and some memories as well. I am so glad I signed up for the fluke trip with Jimmy. Hope to do it again next year if the opportunity comes along. I went on 3 trips this year. Cullen ,Tyler, and Jimmy. Ryan, keep up the good work putting these trips together for the members. You are giving folks an excuse to go and have some fun.
Have to say how great my 5 charter trips were this year, split between Cullen and Tyler. It was my first time and we limited out and brought home two species on every outing. It was also so much fun getting to fish my own untested homemade lures.
Just wanted to give a shout out to Tyler from Flatliner Charters. What a great day of fishing out at Monomoy. He had us on fish all day. It was my first time at Monomoy and what a beautiful place to fish.
Captain Tyler excels at putting us on the fish!
Great captain, beautiful boat and perfect weather. The stripers and blues all cooperated to make a perfect trip. First time I've been on a charter since the late 90's. Well worth the wait.
I had a great experience with Tyler yesterday. He had a perfect way of getting us on the fish and made the time spent very enjoyable. He even made me a big fan of bonito fishing even though I must admit I might have been negative to that species initially. I have had the pleasure of fishing with both Cullen and Tyler this year. They are both first class all the way. Keep up the good work.
We had a fantastic trip with Tyler today. Caught Stripers, Blues and Bonito. FUN!
We went out with Captain Tyler and he made it fun. He let us use any technique we wanted to try.
Excellent trip yesterday (epic) blues and stripers. Fish on the first four casts. Thanks for the opportunity.
Captain Tyler was fantastic. Would rebook with him in a heartbeat. The trip was great!
Great time today. Birds all over the place and hit the stripers early and limit and then Tautog with the same results. Tylers the best.
You have two awesome captains. Tyler kept us on fish for most of the day. Thank you for doing what you do.
Met 2 other MFCC members and topped my previous personal best 2 times with the largest measuring 38”. Great day.
It was insane. I personally caught 26 fish. Just an epic day.
Types of Charters/Trips
Monomoy Rips: September brings some of the year’s most explosive topwater action. As baitfish schools thicken up for their fall migration, the Monomoy Rips become a striper paradise. Watch stripers explode on surface lures in the clear ripping water as they aggressively feed in preparation for the migration.
Cape Cod Bay & Provincetown: September transforms the Bay into a live bait angler’s dream. Live mackerel has been king this year for Tyler in the bay and off Plymouth, but during the last few trips vertical jigging off Ptown with diamond jigs has been hot.
September Advantage: This is when both locations really shine. The stripers have been feeding all summer, and they’re aggressively preparing for their southern migration. Water temperatures are cooling, bait concentrations are peaking, and the fish are less pressured after the summer crowds thin out.
Tyler supplies light tackle spinning gear and will switch tactics based on conditions – topwater plugs for the explosive Rips action, diamond jigs when they’re holding deeper, or live-lining pogies and mackerel when the big girls want the real deal. September fishing means adapting to what could be some of the best striper action of the entire season.
